Kind of a sad headline. I hate the way that childhood indoctrinated of magical thinking before the child has developed their own critical thinking skill, really screws them up - for life. If only we could ban religion for a generation it would die as it should. I am not a fan of any religion. What happened to Matthew Shepard (who would have been 46 years old today 05/12/2022 if he lived) was terrible. We remember him and his loved ones today. With the decline of traditional male blue collar jobs in say mining, construction, heavy industry and even heavy haulage, men did not need to rely on their brawn, their muscle and that testosterone to literally hew a living for them and their families from the ground. Men began punching the clock and working with machines in factories. Men started working in Offices shifting paper rather than in yards moving coal and so it was felt that rather than being seen as the Brawny fisherman like Simon Peter hauling in his nets on the Lake when called by Jesus, men were now nothing more than pen pushers (doing jobs Women could do equally as well) Linked to this was almost a redefinition of what it meant to be a man in the light of progress, societal changes and even redefining Women’s roles from simply help mate, child bearer, domestic servant and a provider for men’s sexual needs. Nick is a great representative for all 4 of the guys, each salt-of-the-earth from 4 amazing families. What our DOJ did to these guys was horrific, but especially what they did to Nick was literally criminal. When the highest law enforcement agency in the country destroys and hides evidence just to win, their individual sentences to prison should be twice as long as the innocent they convicted. What Nick didn't get to say here was that the prosecutor in the original case, whose misconduct caused Judge Urbina to dismiss the case, suddenly made his reappearance into prosecution against Nick - in the 3rd trial, and that Judge Lamberth served in Vietnam during My Lai. Funny how the government lost each case against Nick, right up until this judge had himself reassigned to this case on remand, and the dirty prosecutor had himself reinserted into the prosecution team. Our guys were not only victims of Iraqi lies and FBI agents who refused to take witness statements that contradicted what the Iraqis told them, but of a judge and a set of prosecutors who carried their own prior bad-act baggage.
